Idea

The house was designed in a small village north of Poznan. In this area, there is a local plan, which imposes a binding building line, requiring the building to be placed about 5 meters from the street, and sets a sloping roof with the ridge parallel to the street. What is interesting, on one side of the plot we have an old, almost 100 years old brick building with a slanting roof (hence the slanting roof in the plan), but the roof has its ridge perpendicular to the axis of the street, and what is more, the building has its gable wall facing the street. On the other side, there is a two-storey building with a flat roof. And it was this building that drew the building lines. Our answer is a house consisting of two masses which meet at the eaves. As a result of this gesture, the building line has a wall not much lower than the neighbouring block, and the ridges of the two blocks are parallel to the street in accordance with the plan. The smaller and lower block on the street side is gently moved towards the building with a slanting roof, which creates a small entrance space on the northern side of the plot. Two cars can easily be parked in this space.

Function

The first smaller part of the house contains the entrance area and two rooms. The previously mentioned shifting of the blocks allows one of them to look at the river, which is located to the west of the plot. The second room is a study with a small mezzanine. When designing the second part of the house, we took advantage of the natural slope of the plot. The living area is more than 1.5 metres lower than the street, so you can freely go out onto the terrace, which turns into a lawn. In this block, the third room, the bedroom of the hosts, which also offers a view of the river, is suspended on the half-floor. The lowering of the living area, which includes a living room, dining room and open kitchen, created at the meeting point of the solids 3 seats, into which we incorporated steps. These seats have hidden compartments in them. The house has one small bathroom, located in the northern part of the bigger volume of the house, accessible from the level of the entrance zone. The surface area of the house is only 93 m2. It was designed in a timber-frame construction. The elevations are covered with wood painted in a dark colour. The roof was designed from pre-painted tin panels. On the inside, all external walls are covered with plywood, while the walls separating individual rooms were designed from plasterboards. An unusual request of the investor was to find a place for the basketball boards. We found such a place on the front wall of the smaller block of the house. Maybe it doesn't allow to play a match, but for sure you can practice throwing for three points ;).
